Random Oil Spill Expert.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Typical CNN poll:

Do you approve of the way President Obama has handled the Gulf of Mexico oil spill?

And you can answer either Yes or No. How about “I don’t know anything about oil spill cleanups and you should go ask experts to grade him instead of asking any asshole with a computer/internet connection who happens to stop by CNN.com what he thinks.”

Also, CNN.com readers aren’t experts. It’s basically right down the middle 52-48 right now. Really, I would say people have no idea if he’s doing a good job and all these polls that CNN has had lately seem to split right down the middle.

I bet it’s a lot like that Simpsons episode where they save the cute animals for celebrities/politicians and make the regular people showing up to clean lots and lots of rocks.

I’m just pissed off and excited.

Pissed off: I did my Federal and State Income Taxes. Would it be too much to ask that the Federal Government and the State of Iowa actually make these tax forms understandable to the average person? They keep using vague and ambiguous terms that could mean anything and nothing. State Governments have demanded that cell phone companies make less confusing statements. I ask the government to make a less confusing tax form. Or just dump income taxes across the board. Get rid of all of them. If we did that, we’d be able to fund the same government we had in 1999.

Excited: iPad. Technology is way cool. I mean, sure it’s just a giant iPod Touch with just more features and a bigger screen. But it’s very cool that something so powerful could be made so small and thin and light weight. Remember ten years ago when computer screens weighed a ton and would bend desks because they were so heavy and gigantic. Now my screen on my laptop might weigh 1/2 a pound. I dunno. Everything just keeps getting better and easier to use. Especially if you’re not using Windows. But I’m not buying one. I have a laptop and an iPod Touch and that’s plenty good for now.

Pissed off: State of the Union. Ya know, I’m too busy playing WoW to actually watch it. I heard they moved it to accommodate Lost. Hehehe. It reminds me of those ABC guys who thought it was horrible that Monday Night Football would preempt Bewitched back in the early 70′s. So yeah, if you want a reason to be pissed off at that whole thing, read Anthony Gregory’s take on it. He’s awesome.

UPDATE 11:50 PM: Also props to Judge Andrew Napolitano for pointing out why Samuel Alito was justified in mouthing “That’s not true.” during the State of the Union. At least he didn’t yell out “You Lie!” like an idiot.

Excited: Baseball Prospectus annual PECOTA projections came out today and they have the Pirates projected to win 70 games! Now that’s progress. Of course, PECOTA isn’t a guarantee of anything. I mean the same projections have no team getting above 90 wins outside the AL East and the Nationals winning 82 while the Marlins are in last place. Also last season, they gave the Cubs a 62% chance of making the playoffs while the Cards and Rockies had 18% and 14% respectively.

I just wonder if they win 70 or even 75, would people like Smizik and Chass see the Pirates making progress or would they still write their little bitch-fest columns on how the Pirates aren’t spending money.

Bush Tax…cuts?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

It’s amazing to me that during the Bush years and in the year since he left office that the one thing the media blames the recession on is the so-called “Bush Tax Cuts”. And now that Obama is president, we got the tea party people out there finally acting outraged about taxes because Obama and the Democrats might raise taxes. But you see, Bush raised taxes too. There were no “tax cuts” during the Bush years. The fact is that in the final budget submitted by Bush for FY2009, the federal government collected $2.7 trillion in taxes. In 2002, the federal government collected a little under $2 trillion in taxes. Um, doing the math here, it looks to me that Bush increased taxes by $700 billion annually.

So what exactly do the Paul Krugmans of the world mean by tax cuts? They just mean the amount of money that the federal government collected was less than they would have collected had Bush not rearranged the tax code. And we’re talking about a relatively small amount. They use the term tax cut the same way that they use the term budget cuts. You see, the government doesn’t cut the budgets for most programs. What gets cut is the expected increase in the budget. So if in 2004 a government program cost $5 million and they asked for a $6 million budget the next year and only got $5.5 million budget, they’d be the victims of budget cuts.

But it is incredible that on one side are the tea party folks who complain about tax increases when they just saw the federal budget and the amount of money collected by the federal government skyrocket in the last 8 years. And at the same time, the pro-government left complain about the anti-government bias on the right by pointing to Bush’s 2009 $3.1 trillion government.

Paul Krugman and other Keynesians loves blaming the economic downturn on “tax cuts” because they have a vested interest in making cuts in the government look like the bogeyman that caused the recession. The recession was caused by easy credit, excessive spending and low savings, all of which were encouraged and subsidized by the federal government. At the end of the day, the last 8 years just throughly debunked Keynesian economics as a viable economic theory, but it continues on because it empowers the people in the government and that’s why it just won’t get a whole lot better any time soon.

This is the funniest story. Ever.

I love party crashers. At the White House. At a state dinner.

I love this:

The couple is well-known in “wine country and polo circles” in Fauquier County, Virginia, west of Washington, the Post reported. Their presence at the White House caught the immediate attention of Roxanne Roberts, one of two Post columnists who writes the newspaper’s gossip column.

“When I saw them come in, I went ‘What on Earth are they doing here?’ ” Roberts said.

That’s funny. We need more stories like this.

UPDATE 6:45 PM: This story just keeps getting better.

Chicago losses again…

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I figured this morning that by noon, the 2016 Olympics would be set to be in Chicago. Instead they lost in the first round, which is kind of surprising, Chicago was the favorite going in. They should be used to that by now. The Cubs lost in the first round the last two years and the White Sox did too last year. Not even Obama, Michelle and Oprah could get the IOC to put it in Chicago. Oh well, the folks in Illinois should be grateful, the IOC probably just saved the tax payers there a huge wad of cash.

As for Rio De Janeiro, they and the entire South American continent deserve a shot at it. Personally, I got kind of sick of how often it was in the United States, almost like it was more of a US event rather than a world event. The US has hosted it twice in my lifetime already in 1984 and 1996. I think the IOC should do a sort of rotation so that each continent gets a shot at it, with Africa getting a real shot at the 2020 Olympics. Then maybe in 2024, it coming back to North America. Then in 2028, maybe heading back to Australia or New Zealand.

Invasion 09.

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

So apparently in the last week, the Obama administration has invaded the country of Somalia. It’s amazing to me how many cars had those Obama bumper stickers with the peace sign in the O and now Obama is basically turning his back on that idea. Of course the morons who were protesting the wars during the Bush years don’t give a shit anymore. Those so called anti-war protests were just anti-Bush rallies. In the same way the anti-tax protests are just anti-Obama rallies. If you look at both groups, they were both so fake and so transparent. Hell, they even talked about sending the military to Darfur, as though that wasn’t unconstitutional.

So the people who were supposedly anti-war during the Bush years aren’t saying anything about this unconstitutional invasion of another nation. The fact is that the media has basically done their best work to keep this quiet and not say anything about it. Let the Obama admin attack whatever country it wants, he’s the president we want, he can do whatever he wants. Even worse, he’s increasing the number of troops in Afghanistan and there are still troops in Iraq. He hasn’t been the peace president people said he would be. But those people don’t care, they just wanted a Democrat instead of a Republican.

And now Bill Clinton is doing some saber rattling over Iran. And just as I finished this up, CNN has a breaking story saying that Gitmo wouldn’t be closed by January 2010 which was the Obama deadline.

Birth Certificate.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Why does anyone care about the president’s supposed lack of birth certificate? I think I have one somewhere around here. Anyways, it really doesn’t matter. If they actually discovered he’s not a US born citizen, they’ll just kick him out and put in Joe Biden and he’ll probably do the exact same things Obama would do.

There ya go…

The best reason I did not vote for Barack Obama and will not in 2012.

They need to stop wasting money on the drug war and legalize marijuana. Barack Obama has no interest in doing that, therefore I have no interest in voting for him.

Work is canceled because of rain.

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I spent a big chunk of the afternoon dusting, vacuuming and cleaning everything. Anyways, I found this interesting thing about the Modern Militia movement and was thinking about it while cleaning.

A lot of it is stuff to watch out for when dealing with violent people. Basically it’s a list of militia related arrests and violence caused by them. Not a whole lot there. There’s more unsolved murders in New York and LA than the few things they found militias doing. They said the root cause of militia movements in the last 2 decades was “The 1992 standoff between federal authorities and the Weaver family at Ruby Ridge, Idaho” and “…a 51 day siege…at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas resulting in the deaths of 82 Davidians and four law enforcement agents.”

So basically the government inadvertently caused the militia movement they’re complaining about in the first place. Also I love this “This caught on in the 1980′s with injects such as Tom Clancy novels, Soldier of Fortune Magazine and movies such as Rambo that glorified combat.” HAHAHAHA. Blame Rambo and cheesy Tom Clancy books, I guess.

Anticipation of the economic collapse of the US Government: Many militia organizations feeel that the US government will fall due to economic or racial issues. They believe that during the chaotic fall of the government, moves will be made to install Martial Law, confiscate firearms and imprison many citizens. This fear has recently been heighten by a report from a Russian Economic analyst, Igor Panarin. Panarin predicted that the US would collapse and fraction into six dfferent regions controlled by foreign governments. Panarian goes on to say that as early as the autumn of 2009, the economic crisis will lead to a civil war.

So because some Russian dude says it, it must be true? Furthermore, if the US government collapses because of the economy (not fucking likely), how would they actually enforce martial law? How would they make mass arrest if the government collapse. Even if the the US is divided and controlled by foreign countries, how the hell would they do it?

North American Union (NAU): Conspiracy theorists claim that this union would link Canada, the United States and Mexico. The NAU would unify it’s monetary system and trade the dollar for the AMERO. Associated with this theory is concern over a NAFTA Superhighway, which would fast track trade between the three nations. There is additional concern that the NAU would open the border causing security risks and free movement for immigrants.

I love that stupid Superhighway complaint. As though it’ll be all that much worse if there’s a big highway from Canada to Mexico than it is now with lots of different highways from Canada to Mexico? I mean, Tomtom and Garmin makes it pretty easy to find your way around in this country, wouldn’t it be an easy trick to just drive between the two right now? I know there’s lots of people talking about this. They call up the free talk live guys a lot and complain about the Superhighway and the FTL guys just brush it off. I don’t think the majority of people talking about this are really a threat.

Universal Service Program: Statements made by President Elect Obama and his chief of staff have led extremists to fear the creation of a Civilian Defense Force. This theory requires all citizens between the age of 18 and 25 to be forced to attend three months of mandatory training.

Ok. I’ve heard that one before and honestly, it could be something to worry about. I mean, right on Obama’s campaign website it says “Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year”. Of course lazy government workers messed this up. It’s National Service Program, not Universal Service. Universal Service has to do with the FCC.

Christian Identity: Religious ideology popular in extreme right-wing circles. Aherents that whites of European descent can be traced back to the “Lost Tribes of Isreal.” Many consider Jews to be the satanic offspring of Eve and the Serpent, while non-whites are “mud people” created before Adam and Eve.

Wow. Where was this in Genesis? I never read about Eve and Snaky getting it on, maybe I have the wrong version of Genesis. Man, I wish I was Jewish now. I mean, I want to be descended from a snake. And is mud people just a derogatory way of saying evolution?

White Nationalist: Many white supremacists, National Socialists “Neo-Nazi”, and skinheads are drawn to the movement and it’s anti government, Semitic and anti-immigration rhetoric.

So a bunch of socialists are drawn to anti-government militias? That doesn’t even make the least bit of sense.

Sovereign Citizen: Individuals that see themselves as Sovereign Citizens question the legitimacy of the federal government. They argue that the government has gotten away from the intent of the Constitution and is thus not valid. These groups are strong states rights advocates, but see the County Sheriff as the highest position of authority. These groups and individuals are well known for failure to register vehicles and driving without valid licenses. Sovereign Citizens have been known to issue their own license plates and drivers licenses and to issue summons to appear in “Common Law” courts.

Wow. If they see the county sheriff as the highest position of authority, than what do police in Missouri really have to worry about? Just always bring along the county sheriff. Geez. Of course that’s probably a complete fabrication. Here’s the big danger. Not renewing your license or registering your car and making not phony licenses, but your own licenses that are clearly different than the governments. Clearly a huge public danger. I’m gonna make my own license plate and I’ll have mine say “FUCKOFF”.

Tax Resistors: This movement is strongly in opposition to the collection of federal income taxes. Individuals in this movement generally believe that income taxes are invalid or the tax laws do not apply to them.

I’m strongly opposed to the collection of federal income taxes. I think they suck and are a complete drain on the US economy. However, I know they apply to me. I’m not that awesome, I guess. If you cheat on your taxes, you can just get a job with the Obama administration anyways…

Public Groups: …It is not uncommon for these groups to be seen in public doing community service related work…

This is so broad almost anyone could be a militia member. So maybe we should start suspecting any groups who pick up trash at parks or help with flood relief…

Political Paraphernalia: Militia members most commonly associate with 3rd party political groups. It is not uncommon for militia members to display Constitution Party, Campaign for Liberty or Libertarian material. These members are usually supporters of former Presidential Candidate: Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin and Bob Barr.

Ugh, shut the fuck up. I have determined through no research at all that assholes voted for one of the two major parties. The bigger assholes usually voted for the guy who won.

Anti-Government Propaganda: Militia members commonly display picture, cartoons, bumper stickers that contain anti-government rhetoric. Most of this material will depict the FRS, IRS, FBI, ATF, CIA, UN, Law Enforcement and “The New World Order” in a derogatory manor. Additionally, Racial, anti-immigration and anti-abortion, material may be displayed by militia members.

Guys with bumper stickers with funny cartoons and sayings are clearly a huge danger. Also, shows how lazy the people making this report were, again, “derogatory manor”? Are you sure it’s not “derogatory manner”? Lazy idiots. So are they admitting there is a “New World Order”? They seem almost offended by guys making fun of the NWO.

So yeah, some of it’s real stuff to be worried about, but most of it’s bullshit. I mean, it’s clearly just an attack on anti-government people and it would seem they’re more worried about ideas than guns and explosives.

Breaking News Polls.

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Um, CNN has an interesting poll right now. “Should the government spend more money rescuing banks?” You can answer Yes or No. No is winning 80-20 with over 200,000 voters in the poll. I get this feeling people don’t want the government doing stuff, but politicians never listen to people….

How about this poll: “If you have $100,000 in your bank account and your bank is failing, would you want the government to bailout your bank out so that you don’t lose your money?” I wonder how that poll would be answered…. :-)

Also I love when people like Newt Gingrich talks about congress and he uses words like “they ram things through”. Hahahaha, ram. I’ve rammed lots of things, but none of them have ever gone through congress. Know what I mean? Say no more, say no more. Say No More!

Oh, I want to see Barack Obama take on the Special Olympics bowling team. I think that’d be pretty cool because if he’s as bad as he said he was on Leno, then he’d probably have his ass handed to him. I picked Northern Iowa to win the NCAA Tournament. I lose, of course. None of the teams I ever pick win. Someday I might pull off a Villanova. And Villanova is a major college in this country, why is it mis-spelled on my MacBook? And why is Obama still mis-spelled?
