Well that sucked.

Iowa lost. I’m 0-3 lifetime at Hawkeye games. I’m starting to think I’m really unlucky. Actually it’s all Jennie’s fault. She should have bought tickets for last weeks game. Stanzi got hurt. There goes their chances. Unless Vandenberg can really step up next week at Ohio State.

Also, what’s the deal with scams? I got one of those scam emails in my hotmail account and I was just amazed at it. It’s so obviously a scam. It just makes them look incredibly lazy. Nigeria, still? It’s probably been over a decade by now. You’d think they’d find some other country to latch on to and try to scam people from. Also, how many different former Finance Ministers who have been able to get 20 million US but can’t get it out themselves do they think we would believe there are?

But ya know what? It’s probably still working. I mean, if it wasn’t would they even bother sending out all those emails with pretty much the same story with different names? There just aren’t enough people who ever heard or believe the phrase “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

The Hoosier Mash.

It was a graveyard smash.

Oh yeah, Iowa coming back again in a game to win 42-24. It was 24-7 Indiana. Then 24-14 Indiana. Then 24-21 Indiana. Then 28-24 Hawkeyes. Then 35-24 Hawkeyes and finally 42-24 Hawkeyes. They could easily be 1-8 this season. But Kirk Ferentz keeps engineering those come back wins. Also next week I’m going to the game. Jennie said something about it this summer and I said sure. I had no preconceived notions of them being 9-0 when I went there. I thought it’d just be a regular game.

In other news, in honor of Halloween, I watched Army of Darkness today. Then I bought an Army of Darkness poster from Amazon. Going to get a poster frame and put it in my living room.

With November coming up tomorrow, I’m going to have to start thinking about Christmas. I only know what to get one person. That’s Jennie’s boyfriend. I have no idea what to get anyone else. Also coming up is the visit to the Dentist, which will cost a lot because of the big X-Ray they’re gonna do. Overall, it’s been a very expensive year. Maybe 2010 will be cheaper…

The Star Wars Holiday Special.

I finally watched it tonight. It really is one of those things you have to experience in its sheer awfulness. Chewbacca was married. As Mary Jo Pehl once pointed out, it’s proof that “everyone is in a relationship but me”. Also, Chewbacca has a son. Basically the entire show is just about his family. Sure, Mark Hammil, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were in it too, but they were mostly cameos. Also it had Art Carny, Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a band called Jefferson Starship. I guess the 70′s were a long time ago. I mean, when they made this, it was a year before the Pirates won their last World Series.

And out of the main three characters, Harrison Ford looked somewhat normal. Just a guy in a bad movie because of his contract. Carrie Fisher looked stoned out of her mind the whole time and Mark Hammil’s face was covered in so much makeup that you could mistake him for someone else. Then there was the famous cartoon that introduced Boba Fett. It was actually kind lame. I mean he’s supposed to be working for Vader, but he ends up saving Luke and Han and then taking off when they find out what he’s up to. And it’s hard to tell if the cartoon itself was supposed to be official canon or just a cartoon.

The funniest part about the show was that the version on Google Video had a bunch of 70′s commercials. It seemed like a large majority of them were made for women in their mid-30′s, the typical Star Wars crowd, I guess, including an odd panty-hose commercial where the woman showed how good the crotch was.

Bad stuff, but good bad stuff. And Iowa won again to get their record up to 8-0. Yeah. Awesome.

Iowa vs. the BcS.

The BCS rankings that they supposedly fixed years ago are still messed up. Iowa is undeafeated and is riding an 11 game win streak (from last year) and yet they’ve had to go 7-0 to even have a hope of entering the BCS top 10. I figured after beating #5 Penn State about a month ago that Iowa would enter the top 10. Meanwhile there are currently, in the AP Top 25, five teams with a single loss ahead of them: Ohio State, Virginia Tech, USC, Miami and LSU. Meanwhile, commentators are telling fans that the reason Iowa isn’t higher in the rankings is because they aren’t flashy enough. Sure those other teams lost games, but they’re flashy, they got highlight film plays. Iowa wins those tough games and close games and such. They aren’t nearly as good. You know, those tough and close games that those flashy teams couldn’t handle. It’s a load of bullshit. Base the rankings on how many losses a team has, not points for being flashy and popular (which is what they seem to base the AP Top 25 and USA Today Poll on).

UPDATE 4:50 PM: Iowa is now ranked #7 in the AP Top 25 and #8 in the USA Today Poll. All the 1 loss teams, except USC, have fallen behind Iowa.

Week 3 and Pirates win again.

The Lions won, they’re now 1-2. It’s not just the Lions players who earned this, it’s the fans who sat through 19 straight losses and an entire season without a victory.

Um, what else. Oh the Pirates won a game today too. They had a crazy fucking 9th inning where Matt Capps gave up 3 runs in a tie ball game and then the Buccos came right back and scored four of their own in the bottom of the 9th to get the victory. And by the fucked up rules of baseball, Matt Capps gives up 3 runs in to the top of the 9th and gets the win. That’s just really wrong. Daniel McCutchen really earned the win today. But that’s why you can’t really look at wins and say that’s the stat that determines whether a pitcher goes to the Hall of Fame or not. And it looks like right now the Steelers are on pace to get another win this week against the Bungles, so all is right for a few hours in Pittsburgh sports.

As for Iowa Hawkeye football…..4-0, #13 overall. So they beat a #5 team yesterday, are undefeated and they only get to #13. Yeah, that makes sense….
